How to set up a dedicated computer?

Here you will find instructions on how to set up a computer as a dedicated computer running our products without user interaction with the best configuration. This is only applicable if you are running DataPoint-enabled presentations on a dedicated computer, e.g. a plasma screen in your office. Read more here.

My linked data is not refreshed

Note that your linked data is only refreshed automatically when you are running your presentation. In design mode the data is not refreshed. In design mode you can refresh your data by choosing DataPoint > Refresh data now.

My Excel linked data is not refreshed or is giving errors

Make sure that your Excel sheet is in shared mode to allow access to multiple persons. Open your Excel file and click Tools > Share Workbook. On the Editing tab check the 'Allow changes by more than one user at the same time' option. Now you can change some cells in the sheet and save the file. Now DataPoint will successfully update your Excel content.

I have 200 records in my database. Do I have to create 200 slides to display it?

If your slide output is identical for all 200 records you just have to create 1 single slide displaying your first record. Then you go to DataPoint > Slide properties > Scrolling tab. There you can set 2 parameters: scroll step and time. The scroll step defines the number of records to skip when scrolling through your record set. The scroll time sets the time to wait until your next scroll interval occurs.

This action will automatically display your 200 records in the slide show or generate 200 slides when you choose to create an offline presentation.

Can I use the free Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer to run with DataPoint?

For all automation you need to have the full PowerPoint product installed as the free PowerPoint Viewer does not support any automation. However the PowerPoint Viewer can be used to view offline generated presentations as here all automation is already completed.

Can I connect DataPoint to databases over the internet?

Sure. If you use a database provider that is addressable over the internet like Microsoft SQL Server or a MySQL database then you can connect your presentation to such a database like it is running locally on your computer or in your private network.

Can I use the HTTP protocol to display images over an internet connection?

Definitely. For a local image reference you will use a notation like 'C:\My Pictures\pic1.jpg'. To use an image or object via the HTTP protocol just use a notation like 'http://www.mywebsite.com/pic1.jpg'. Now instead of using an image from your local hard disk, DataPoint will load an image from any website.
