| RACE
NIGHTS
After buying the DataPoint add-on we
began to find many other uses. We began developing a
new race night system for corporate entertainment that would
eliminate "fun monopoly type money", and thus eliminate
cheating by individuals at race events.
We designed 300 Fun credit
cards complete with a bar codes. Then wrote a Microsoft Access
database that scans the card, and stores all the relevant bets
data. This database sits on Laptop One, which is networked with
14 DataPoint query connections to Laptop Two.
There are over 30 slides
that covers 8 races. While bets are being taken on Laptop One,
live updates are fed to laptop Two and then projected. In this
case, a race card is shown. It displays horse,
owners and betting odds, and behind the text sits a live
graph - which adjusts showing the state of play and the
amount of cash placed on each horse.
Other slides display; league
tables and anyalisis,
players who are out, and the player or team who has won the
most cash on the previous race. The system also allows payouts
on 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishes. The system is now linked to our
touch screen computer and allows players to enter their card
number and view their account personally.
QUIZZES
We also provide a corporate quiz night service, and again DataPoint
came to the rescue, and has given us the edge over our competitors.
We use powerpoint slides containing pictures and text to ask
team questions, and after each round or questions we needed
a solution to display the
team scores electronically, thus elimination the traditional
pen and paper approach - thus giving Motiv-8 the edge!.
We designed and a Microsoft
Excel spreadsheet that can accomodate upto 12 teams, and by
pressing keys on the keyboard, points are added or taken away
from any teams score after each question. This spreadsheet sits
on Laptop One.
After each round (on Laptop Two) a DataPoint linked slide is
shown which extracts the data from the spreadsheet, and displays
all the team scores.
We love it because we can update
the scores at will, and the scores are presented all updated
and correct after each round. The system is flawless.
